Do top discharge units use DC inverter technology?
It is worth noting, however, that cube-shaped (top-discharge) units can also incorporate this technology. However, it is important to highlight that the majority of top-discharge units do not adopt DC inverter technology. Instead, they often rely on single-stage compressors, resulting in higher power consumption and excessive noise.
What is an inverter-driven side discharge unit?
Outdoors, the inverter-driven side discharge unit provides a quieter, more enjoyable outdoor space. For even more installation flexibility, this multi-position Air Handler can be installed vertically or horizontally to accommodate specific space requirements, whether you're installing in an attic or closeted space.
Can inverters be installed outside?
As a rule, inverters designed for outdoor use may be installed either outdoors or indoors, however indoor inverters can only be installed indoors. The great majority of grid-tied or string inverters available today are designed for outdoor installation.
Do air conditioners need a side discharge unit?
The most efficient air conditioners (or heat pumps) need both DC inverter technology AND a large outdoor unit for the best possible efficiency. Side discharge units can be great, but they may not perform nearly as well as a similar top discharge unit of the same (or lower!) SEER rating.
Can a grid-tied inverter be installed outside?
Like most electronic devices, inverters operate more efficiently at cooler temperatures. While most grid-tied inverters are designed for outside installation, they should not be mounted in direct sunlight, as this will degrade their efficiency. In addition to the lost output, the lifetime of the unit is likely to be shortened.
