Containerized battery system installations refer to standalone containers that house the battery systems and associated equipment that are not part of the hull or superstructures, installed on open deck area. The location of containerized battery systems is to take into consideration hazardous areas as discussed in Subsection 3/3.
Can a power plant be used to provide power to vessel Marine Services?
Power plant systems may be used to provide power to vessel marine services and the arrangement is to be in accordance with Subsection 3/7. Lithium-ion battery systems are to comply with the full requirements of the Lithium-ion Batteries Requirements.

Vessels equipped with a high voltage shore connection designed to power the vessel with the shore power alone, enabling the shipboard generators to be shut down while in port, are to comply with the requirements given in the ABS Guide for High Voltage Shore Connection.
Are lithium-ion batteries required to be installed in a power plant?
Where lithium-ion battery systems are installed as part of the power plant for power export, the installation is to comply with the applicable requirements in the ABS Requirements for Use of Lithium-ion Batteries in the Marine and Offshore Industries (Lithium-ion Batteries Requirements) as referenced in this Subsection.
How do I classify a power plant?
Power generation, battery systems and distribution equipment, systems, subsystems, and components that have been built, installed, and commissioned to the satisfaction of the Surveyors to the full requirements in Sections 5 and 6, may be classed and distinguished in the ABS Record by the optional notation ✠ Power Plant.
